Samsung launches T7, the fingerprint-locked hard drive

Named for the Innovation Prize at CES 2020, the new external SSD from Samsung combines exceptional performance and enhanced security. Available from January, it is available in three sizes and from 129.99 euros.

A benchmark for external SSD hard drives , the T5 finally has a little brother, and Samsung named it T7. On the menu, better performance, greater accounting and above all, more security. More specifically for the T7 Touch . “Touch” because you have to press the disk to use it, and thus access the data.

Available in three versions, 512 GB, 1 TB and 2 TB of memory, this drive benefits from a biometric protection system since it is unlocked using its fingerprint . The whole is associated with an encryption system to secure the data recorded on the disc and which only requires the installation of Samsung software during the first use. Then everything is perfectly autonomous and the disk is protected against access and theft of data files. If you prefer, you can also protect it with a password.

Ideal for working on very large files

In terms of performance, Samsung makes the best of the second generation of USB 3.2 connectivity to announce truly impressive transfer and read speeds: 1 GB per second in both cases. To give you an idea, it’s twice as fast as the T5, and almost 10 times faster than a conventional external hard drive . Suffice to say that the access and use of files will be done without slowing down, even with very large files.

Other strong points: the absence of the charger and its weight. Less than 60 grams, it is appreciable on the move and on the price side, it will take around 130 euros for the 50 GB version, and up to 400 euros for the 2 TB model. All of this being available from January in 30 countries, including France, and Samsung promises compatibility with Windows, Mac and even Android.
